The recently announced LDS temple in Philadelphia will be erected in the city's historic downtown.
The site, at 1739 Vine St., is adjacent to the Vine Street Expressway and neighboring courts building, while being diagonally across the street from Logan Square, a prominent Philadelphia landmark.
It also is close to the Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the main branch of the Free Library and the Franklin Institute.

In a pre-trial hearing today, 51st District Judge Barbara Walther denied a state request to move the trial of Allan Eugene Keate from Schleicher County to Tom Green County.
Keate is the second member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and resident of the Yearning vor Zion Ranch to go to criminal trial as an outcome of the state's historic raid on the ranch in April 2008.
Keate's attorney opposed the motion.

Lon Clair Christensen, 81, died Nov. 16, 2009, in Davis.
Born June 26, 1926, in Thatcher, Utah, he was the great-grandson of Danish 'hand cart' Mormon pioneers of the 1840s.
He served a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints mission to California, where he met his future wife.

Members of other religions had plenty of reason to hate Joseph Smith.
He testified that he'd seen and spoken to God who called him as a prophet to proclaim all other churches as being false.

The community is invited to the 12th annual Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at 6 p.m. on Sunday at LDS Church, 15265 Mulberry Drive.
The program is about an hour with individuals from many faiths participating and a combined choir from different churches.
The event is sponsored by The Whittier Interfaith Council and The Whittier Area Clergy Association.

A Utah lawmaker says he agrees with the Mormon church's support of two nondiscrimination ordinances approved in Salt Lake City but that he won't sponsor legislation to extend those protections to all Utahns.

As we all know from either reading any newspaper in Utah (including the Daily Universe ) or just hear-say, the LDS Church has come out with an official statement regarding rights for homosexuals to have housing and employment.
This statement was given by Public Affairs managing director for the LDS church, Michael Otterson during a public hearing regarding Salt Lake City's developing non-discrimination ordinance.
